Calcium Chloride
Shale Inhibitor
Product Description
Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) is used as a brine for completion, workover and packer fluids in water and oil based drilling fluids and used in invert emulsion fluids.
Application/Function

Used in drilling fluids as a means of producing dense brines, which are applied in completion, workover, gravel-packing, perforating, and packer fluids because of the divalent charge, less commonly used in reservoir drill-in fluids.

Can be used in invert emulsion fluids where it is added to the disperse, aqueous phase to balance chemical activity with the formation and limit osmotic effects.
